Arielle Avina, a sophomore at Murrieta Valley High in California, placed second in the Division 2 girls final by covering the 5-kilometer layout in 17:41.9 at Woodward Park in Fresno at the CIF State Cross Country Championships. Avina helped Murrieta Valley finish fifth with 174 points.
